ALL IN THE DETAILS: Keeping Cool While Staying Warm

As students of Hope College, we have become accustomed to the unfortunate West Michigan winter climate (snow, snow, oh and more snow). Although we all wish that we could just go into hibernation and watch Netflix under a pile of blankets until every inch of snow is gone, there is no avoiding the endless winter months. It is not uncommon to see students hiding their faces from the cold as they trudge to class bundled up in as many layers as possible without looking like a walking marshmallow. There is no denying that you need some serious warm gear to get you through the frigid temperatures, but that doesn’t mean you need to blend into the sea of The North Face parkas and Sorel boots.

These winter boots not only match everything in your wardrobe, but keep your toes toasty warm all the way from November to March. We absolutely loved the cool-girl Chelsea boots trend that Alexa Chung championed this past fall, but leather booties just don’t cut it through four feet of snow (unless you enjoy frostbite). These Chelsea-inspired rubber boots are the next best option. They are practical, stylish and versatile. Not to mention, they’re also waterproof and fully fur-lined.

This Fashionista completes her casual winter look with a chunky green knit cardigan, mustard scarf and gray beanie.

How To: When choosing a winter boot, pick a simple pair that will go with most of the items in your wardrobe. If you live on a snowy campus with a long winter, remember that you will most likely be sporting these kicks for at least a few months so they will need to be versatile.
