ALL IN THE DETAILS: Making a Statement in the Winter

Winter in the city makes it hard to intertwine both comfort, warmth, and style. One day, it seems like it will be 30 degrees and snowing, the next 45 and sunny. Keeping this in mind, students around the New York University campus must learn to be both practical and stylish in the midst of the winter season. I spotted this Fashionista walking back from her finals and adored her look. She was able to be both comfortable, warm, and look great on the windy 35 degrees New York City day.

This Fashionista paired her simple leggings and T-shirt with a great pair of winter boots, fuzzy socks, and a cozy parka that completes her whole look. If you have scrolled through any social media app, blog, or flipped through a magazine, there is one accessory that is everywhere this season—the choker necklace.

Being a student in the big city has both its pros and cons—the pros being that there is so much to see and do, the cons being that you need to be a little more practical with what you wear every day. It’s hard for us students to walk to class wearing heels or walking around in a cute dress when it’s freezing outside. Especially when it comes to finals week and waking up is a struggle in itself. Finding time to pick out a cute outfit can become a hassle for all of us. That’s why I adore this look. Her pink coat makes a huge statement and is still functional for both class and confronting the cold city. Walking to class can be a hassle on its own. Most NYU students have at least a five to 15 minute trek to class, so comfort is a must in shoes. Her shoes enable her to walk to class in comfort and warmth by pairing her classic black ankle boots with heavy knit socks.

Even with the highly stressful time of finals week—a week in which most students are found in pajamas or big hoodies—this student’s outfit enables her to be both a student and a New Yorker. Every detail brings about a different aspect of either comfort, warmth or style, creating an outfit that many would like to recreate around campus.
