If there’s one thing I need to do more of, it is to accessorize. My junior year at Kent State University, I constantly saw my peers rocking awesome statement necklaces, chunky bracelets and rings. Now, I do wear my fair share of rings, but very rarely do I accompany an outfit with a bold piece of jewelry. While I was home before I left for my internship, I ran into this Fashionista at our local coffee shop. Since attending high school and the same college together, this Fashionista has always known how to make a statement with her clothing and especially her jewelry. Overhearing her talk to a mutual friend about her trip studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I knew I had to hear about the details in her outfit.
This Fashionista is able to pull off her monochromatic wardrobe so well and doesn’t appear to be completely swallowed up by all the dark colors. Although some spring and summer mornings can be smoldering, you should always be prepared for the rare crisp morning air. For her morning coffee date, she decided to pair a lightweight knit sweater with a pair of dark wash black skinny jeans. Her sweater gives off a feminine touch with the slits on the side, showing off her frame. To give off an edgy appeal, she completed her outfit with a pair of black combat boots.
Tying the outfit together, she donned a few rings, but one piece is what really made her outfit stand out as a whole. She presented a large silver statement necklace, but not just any kind of necklace. This Fashionista was wearing something that symbolizes a piece of her study abroad trip—a necklace she got on a weekend trip to Morocco! That’s right, she explored the culture of this African country. This one-of-a-kind piece makes a one-of-a-kind look. With great style to boot, this Fashionista has a story to tell. When picking out a piece of jewelry to wear, always go with a piece that will be a unique standout. Wearing a piece that will grab other attention is always a great way to strike up a conversation, because you never know, they may have a story to tell.
How To: You don’t have to go all the way to the coast of Morocco to get a rocking statement necklace. Pair your own coffee run attire with a necklace that shows off your personal style.
