It seems like the groundhog was not playing around with his weather predictions this year. With the whole country enduring this last miserable week of winter, Fashionistas and Fashionistos everywhere are struggling to keep their outerwear looks fresh and interesting. Our spring wardrobes are full of color, pattern and life, but our winter clothes are similar to the weather: dark and dreary. We have worn every scarf, hat, coat and boot combination we can possibly think of and still have to bundle up on a daily basis. However, maybe we just need to look at our wardrobe from a fresh, new, minimalist perspective.
This Fashionista decided to pick one exciting piece of outerwear as her focal point of the outfit and keep the rest in monochrome to show off the color and detail of her coat. With the dark gray and black of her scarf, head wrap and boots, she leaves the blue of her coat to pop against the dark background along with the colorful plaid stripes (advice possibly taken from my earlier article?) and buttons. Who says that the coat has to be the focus of the outfit? You can change it up and make the focus a fun scarf, a bright bag or even a hat, but feel free to wear a colorful coat, too.
How To: Use your dark winter wardrobe as a monochromatic canvas for one interesting and colorful piece from your closet. Rock a colorful coat, bag, scarf or headpiece to look both chic and warm while you wait for warmer weather.
