This fall/winter fashion season has consisted of a lot of plaid, scarves, moto jackets, destroyed denim and booties. But as we know in fashion, trends move in a cycle. One trend that seems to be making a comeback is paisley. Paisley can often conjure up thoughts of flared jeans, big platform shoes, floppy hats and other elements that made the psychedelic ‘60s what they were. However, there has been a resurfacing of this ‘60s pattern over the last couple of seasons. Dolce&Gabbana and Gucci focused on this pattern in their fall 2008 collections. This past fall 2014 fashion season, Etro and Burberry also featured the pattern in their collection. Pattern is one detail that should never be overlooked and this week’s Fashionista shows us how to wear it.
The Fashionista wears a black moto jacket with a burgundy button-down containing a white paisley print all over. A gray skirt and a pair of burgundy Dr. Martens highlight the maroon tone in the overall look. As for accessories, she wears a small gold chain, which you can see is in the shape of a baby angel on closer inspection. The Fashionista also wears a gold watch and a pair of gold and black earrings. Her wavy hair, black winged eyeliner and a deep red lipstick complete the hair and makeup portion of the look.
The key component in this look is obviously the paisley print. It’s that extra detail that really makes the whole outfit pop. Paisley can also be the center of a look; for example, a modern paisley print dress from Topshop. Paisley can be sheer, metallic, on skirts and trousers and can even be fun to match with other patterns.
How To: If you are want to dip your toes in on this trend, try something like this Fashionista wore or something smaller like a paisley scarf. Want something a bit more daring? Try a metallic paisley. It’s a modern take on the ‘60s print.
