It was a frigid and wintry day, but I knew I had to brave the elements if I wanted to find the ideal specimen. I weaved my way through the sidewalks with my holiday Spotify playlist blasting in my ear, on the hunt for signs of life in the streets. With every corner I turned, I hoped to be surprised with the perfect college student, but for almost an hour, the only living things I saw were stray cats. My toes were frozen, I was going into violent fits of sneezing, and I was starting to lose feeling in my fingers, but the moment Mariah Carey’s hit single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” came through my headphones, she appeared. I didn’t want a lot for Christmas, but there was just one thing I needed. I didn’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree. I just saw her on her own, ready for that quick photo. She made my wish come true, because all I wanted for my post was you, baby.
This girl was aptly dressed for the weather with three layers on the upper half of her body and a thick pair of jeans on the lower half. A clean pair of Air Force 1s told me that she was a neat girl, and I respected that. I enjoyed the running my hands over her fuzzy jacket and furry sweater, however, what really intrigued me was her choice of footwear, more specifically, her mismatching socks. Was this a simple mistake? Or was this a daring decision that commented on some form of social injustice? The world may never know.
