ALL IN THE DETAILS: Rainy Weather? Challenge Accepted

With Osaka in the middle of official rainy season, it can be difficult to dress for such wet weather. Unlike the west coast of the U.S., we experience extreme humidity that makes everything from sweating to unmanageable hair a total nightmare. I found today’s Fashionista dressed ready to face the challenges of this unglamorous weather.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this Fashionista wears her breakfast on a white blouse. The tiny, delicate buttons with adorable details of a milk carton, toast and a fork add a quirky element and make the shirt very unique. A flowy skirt provides comfort and will help you stay cool when it’s scorching outside. Avoid anything skin tight when you’re looking to stay dry! This Fashionista chose a fun coral shade to give her outfit a pop of color. She also wore a navy cardigan that adds a darker hue to her otherwise bright ensemble and provides balance. As hot as it is, with the AC on full blast in every building you walk into, you’re bound to sometime get cold (two hours in a movie theater, anyone?). A light cardigan is good to have for when you suddenly might need some extra warmth or when you forget an umbrella and have to make a run for it.

The latter was definitely not the case for this Fashionista; she carried an umbrella that doubled as a parasol to protect her from the sun. UV protection is an absolute must in Japan, making parasols a closet staple. She carried a cream cross-body bag to carry her essentials and only her essentials. Sticking to smaller bags will force you to carry only what you really need. You don’t want to carry around any excess weight, especially if you’re going to be walking and moving around a lot. As for shoes, she wore a pair of tan colored wedges. When dealing with rainy weather, keep your feet from getting drenched by wearing shoes with a platform. You won’t have to worry about stepping in a puddle!

Don’t let the rain ruin your day! It’s all about planning out an outfit that will help keep you dry and cool in the heat. Loose clothing, sandals with a platform, a cute umbrella and you’re ready to go.

How To: Finding a shirt with such unique details can be difficult, so try looking for individual pins or brooches to add to a plain shirt. A printed umbrella can also be a great accessory to help boost your mood when you’re walking in the rain.
