Happy fall, Fashionista/os! I hope you are all settled in at school and gearing up for the long haul that is fall semester. If you saw my Style Guru Bio, you know that this semester instead of being back in the BX, I am studying abroad in London. Although I think I will always be partial to New York City, London is right up there. The city is completely gorgeous, and so are the people. Everyone I see seems to be in on all of the latest trends, making the subway—urm, tube—ride to school feel like flipping through a fashion magazine.
Some of the major trends that I have noticed in my first month here aren’t all too different from what you would expect to see in New York. A lot of ‘90s vibes, monochrome looks and tailored pieces that only London could produce. The most stand-out trend that I’ve seen, though, is the London take on grunge. Londoners aren’t super into patterns, but definitely play with various textures. There is a lot of suede and leather going on, to say the least. The best looks I have seen have been monochromatic outfits of various fabrics paired with statement chokers and mini backpacks.
Repping our small Fordham community in London this semester, this Fashionista is killing the London grunge game. She is bringing it in black, but when you really look at her outfit, you realize just how genius it is. Her graphic T-shirt adds a touch of classic grunge, without going overboard. Paired with a stitched suede mini and black platform sandals, her look is totally street-chic. Her understated accessories—assorted bangles and a necklace—add a personal touch to her outfit, bringing it down and making it the perfect outfit for any occasion.
If you want to achieve the ultimate London street-style this fall, remember to mix textures, not colors. Keep it simple and you’re good to go!
