ALL IN THE DETAILS: Under The Sea

If the skies are out, you best believe that the thighs are out. The summer season has finally crept around, allowing us Fashionistas/os to ditch our constricting jeans and opt for something a little more risqué. When it comes to deciding on what to wear, it is sometimes difficult to choose out of the endless amount of skirts and shorts in our wardrobe. On the bright side, us Fashionistas are blessed because we have a simple cheat to looking bomb: dresses. Dresses are the most efficient way to achieve a chic, put together look minus the effort.

Dresses are without a doubt the most versatile piece out there. Whether you choose a basic T-shirt dress or an intricate lace dress, you can “dress it up or dress it down” to tailor it to any occasion you need to attend and still look fabulous, guaranteed. The key to fitting a dress for any event you attend is in the accessories you pair it with. This Fashionista, in particular, paired this casual, striped black and white bodycon dress with very ocean-themed accessories. The gold, coral reef style statement necklace and flat black sandals with a sea vibe bring the outfit together for a casual look. To take this look to the next level, ditch the flat sandals for your favorite pair of strappy, black leather heels and add a bright colored clutch for something a bit more edgy. Now you are ready to take on the night.

When putting together a look, especially involving a dress, it is important to NOT over accessorize. Remember: less is most definitely more. Many of us tend to get too eager when dressing up and choose too many pieces of jewelry to wear at once, but over accessorizing takes away from the entire look of an outfit. My rule of thumb is to “choose two,” meaning I choose two different areas of my body to accessorize. So, I will either wear a necklace along with some bracelets, or just wear a pair of earrings and a snazzy belt. This allows me to protect myself from looking like I threw my entire jewelry closet on myself.

Whatever dress you may choose, make sure that you wear the dress rather than let the dress wear you. So, I expect you to rock ‘em dresses with style and confidence ladies, and I will see you next week!

How To: Try styling your little black dress (LBD) with some statement pieces. Don’t forget to stick to one type of hardware, whether it be gold or silver! Most importantly, play with your look, and don’t be afraid to just have fun with it!
