During my time back home in Palm Beach, Florida over Spring Break, one place I always visit to find a little “welcome home” treat is C. Orrico. They carry many brands, including some of my favorites Milly and Sasha Lickle! I had the opportunity to speak with the three sisters behind the magic of C. Orrico—a staple on the small South Florida island. If you are ever in town, be sure to stop by for a taste of island life.
Name: Colleen Orrico
Role: Shop Owner and Founder
College Fashionista: What was your vision when starting C. Orrico?
Colleen Orrico: When we started the business in 1985, boutique shopping was just coming back into style. All of our family had worked together and so, we decided to open up a shop of our own. Our vision was of a happy, preppy store where people could have fun. Small businesses have the opportunity to create a very comfortable, local environment while still embracing and supporting customers. We didn’t want to be another mainstream place for people to shop.Â
CF: As we all know, Lilly Pulitzer got her start in Palm Beach in the ’60s. How has she influenced your store?
CO: Essentially, we have two business: we have C. Orrico and the brands we sell and then we carry Lilly Pulitzer. Lilly passed down the ability to “charm and disarm,” as she said. Ultimately, we are selling a concept. And she was a major inspiration for us.Â
CF: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is becoming more and more important to consumers these days. How is C. Orrico involved in the Palm Beach Community?
CO: We donate to approximately 200 charities and usually pick our top four to get really involved in. We have a great amount of town pride! The great thing about being a small business in a small community is that you are known within the town. We are fortunate to be able to participate in all school charities and support other businesses, as well as the island’s residents.Â
