AROUND TOWN: Hazel Boutique

Growing up in a small town is great for finding little shops and boutiques you really cannot find anywhere else. Spewing with unique clothing pieces and articles of jewelry no mall could ever sell, boutiques become a special charm within your hometown. The area where I grew up is filled with shops like these. But there is one particular location everyone has gotten wind of. With nearly five thousand Instagram followers, Hazel Boutique is quickly becoming more and more popular. Located just a few blocks from the beach, this shop has tons of tank tops, rompers, dresses and cute shorts ordered from New York City and Los Angeles brands. The owner, Jenna Campfield, talked to me about her shop.

Name: Jenna Campfield

Role: Owner

CollegeFashionista: How did you start Hazel Boutique?

Jenna Campfield: I first started working out of my home after going to school. I was looking for locations for a while and wasn’t happy with most of them. I was actually in front of this building when the owner also happened to be there. He showed be around the place and I knew it could work. Located on a busy, main street, I felt it had a lot of potential.

CF: How long did it take you to set up after picking a location?

JC: It took about three to four months to spruce up the place. We painted the walls ourselves, fixed up the street front and of course decorated the interior.

CF: Where do you order the clothes in the shop from?

JC: Many of the brands I found by going to shows. Some of my favorites are Chaser, BB Dakota and Show Me Your Mumu.

CF: Where do you primarily find your fashion inspiration?

JC: Much of my inspiration came from Australian brands. On Instagram, I follow brands like Sabo Skirt, Tiger Mist and Mura Boutique. Their clothing has a unique style that is sought out by a lot of girls in the area. Other brands like Free People, of course, also have inspired the boho-chic style I am going for.

CF: How would you describe your personal style? How has working here impacted your style?

JC: I would say that my style right now is everything oversized and flowing. My overall style would be described as boho-chic. I’m the buyer of the clothes, so I order pieces that capture that boho vibe.

CF: What current trends are you looking forward to?

JC: I’m really excited about flash tats and fringe for the spring. My go-to pieces are always oversized and black.
