Ask anyone who’s ever been on Syracuse University’s campus and they’ll have a story to tell about this store. Every student at some point has stopped by in-between classes to grab a pair of stylish sunglasses or the perfect show for a night out in. J Michael Shoes has been a fixture on Marshall Street since 1983, offering the must-have looks and pieces for the current college student. After 32 years, the store is expanding and they’re now offering in store curated items online.
Name: Crystal Murfitt
Role: Sales Associate
CollegeFashionista: What has been your favorite part of working at J Michael Shoes?
Crystal Murffit: It definitely has to be working with the customers. I love to go shopping and help my friends pick out outfits, so it’s like I’m getting paid to help people go shopping. Either that or the fact that I get to give input on some of the items that get brought to the store. It makes me really happy that my opinion is valued by my managers.Â
CF: What are some of the trends you see coming up for spring and summer?
CM: This summer, Birkenstocks are going to be huge. I started seeing them a little bit at the end of the summer last year, but I have a feeling they’re about to blow up this summer.
CF: Do you think J Michael Shoes sets the trends or is it the students that influence what’s in store?
CM: It’s a mix of both. We work hard to pay attention to what students are wearing and what brands they seem interested in. Every once in a while, we like to try out new things and work with the feedback we get from our customers.
