Here at Sacred Heart, “Going Greek” has become a popular way to get involved while making lifelong friendships. But what most people don’t realize is that behind the letters, school spirit and formal dances, much of the focus is on giving back to the community. Each sorority is tied together through a common theme: philanthropies. Kappa Delta, the host of this fabulous fashion show, has created ShamROCK the Runway in order to fundraise for Prevent Child Abuse America. Their goal is to raise 8,000 dollars to help eradicate child abuse in our country. Wow, that’s inspiring, and who doesn’t love dressing up for a great cause? Sorority member Elizabeth Zaffina is the coordinator and mastermind of this event and she sure has aced the art of planning a great show. Read on to find out what she has in store for us viewers.
Name: Elizabeth Zaffina
Role: Kappa Delta Vice President of Community Service
CollegeFashionista: How long have you been planning the ShamROCK the Runway Show?
Elizabeth Zaffina: I kind of hit the ground running on this one! As soon as our chapter elections took place last semester and I found out I was in charge of this years show, I got to work. ShamROCK is our biggest fundraiser of the year and takes teamwork. We have been working behind the scenes non-stop and cannot wait to enjoy the show with the rest of the student body.
CF: What is this year’s theme and how have you made this show different from years past?
EZ: The ongoing theme is shamrocks because the shows always close in date to Saint Patrick’s Day. We feel this tradition is irreplaceable.
CF: Can you tell me where you got the clothes for the models to wear?
EZ: Local boutiques within Fairfield County are lovely enough to provide us clothing. LF in Westport has offered to let our models borrow casual wear. We LOVE their store. Also, Fairfield Swim N’ Surf agreed to provide swimwear and Alexander’s Tuxedos of Bridgeport was nice enough to let our male models borrow apparel for the eveningwear section.
CF: Any secrets you want to share with our readers on what to expect to see at the show?
EZ: A fun flair this year includes our “shamrock costume.” Leading up to the show, students will be able to vote for a Kappa Delta member who they want to see wearing a giant shamrock. It’s pretty hilarious to watch. So stay tuned to see which lucky KD wins the honor to walk around in that hideous thing all night…
