AROUND TOWN: Silver Needle Runway

Every year, the Marist College Fashion Program holds the Silver Needle Runway Show And Awards to showcase the Senior Design Collections and honor the talents of other hardworking fashion students. The show is run by a group of students enrolled in the fashion show production class, and they work collaboratively as a team to produce an amazing show each year. One student from the class, Katharine Osborne, took the time to talk with me and give me her perspective on the experience so far and what to expect from the show.

Name: Katharine Osborne

Role: Public Relations Coordinator

CollegeFashionista: Can you explain your role in the Silver Needle Runway Show?

Katharine Osborne: There are two public relations coordinators for the show. We work together to find abstract ways to promote the runway show, and we also create the press kit. This year, we had the idea of creating temporary tattoos that said #SNR15 (Silver Needle Runway 2015). We are also working on drawing chalk art outside dorms to get more students excited about the show.

CF: Do you think there is anything that sets this show apart from the past years?

KO: This year’s show is really exciting; we’ve all worked really hard as a class and within our teams to make this year even better than last. Something that sets this show apart from others is that we have well-known press coming to the show. We invited Eila Mell, a fashion broadcaster and blogger. Eila co-authors with Heidi Klum and Harvey Weinstein on the official book of the show Project Runway, which is titled Project Runway: The Show That Changed Fashion, as well as many other books. We also have a local high school Poughkeepsie blogger, Raquel, who has a pretty big following attending the show as well. Her blog is called Omnivogues.

CF: What would be the perfect outfit to wear to the Silver Needle Runway Show?

KO: The theme of our show is contemporary. This year, we have gone down the simplistic route; everything is gray, black and white with clean lines. Our intent is to let the designers be the stars of the show, and a lot of their pieces are very abstract and active. Everyone has their own style, but in my opinion, the perfect outfit for the show would be something that you feel comfortable in and something that will make you stand out. The Silver Needle Runway Show is a great way to network and an excellent environment to learn about various aspects of the industry. Try a dress with these shoes.

Learn More: This year’s show will take place on Friday, May 8th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Tickets can be purchased here.
