It was just a few weeks ago that I stumbled upon Wildcard in Pittsburgh’s historic neighborhood of Lawrenceville. The shop caught my eye with its unique Pittsburgh inspired paraphernalia and, of course, its wide variety of greeting cards!
Name: Rebecca Morris
Role: Owner and co-manager of Wildcard
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe Wildcard’s target market?
Rebecca Morris: Our customer base ranges from senior citizens down to young children. We really have a little something for everyone, but I would say many of our customers are in the range of 20 to 45 year-old women.
CF: How did Wildcard come about, or what inspired it?
RM: I was very inspired by large craft fairs such as Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh or Renegade (takes place in multiple cities, but I attended the ones in Chicago). I thought it would be cool to have some items from the vendors at those fairs in a shop year round. I also worked at a fun place in Chicago called Paper Boy, which has since closed, but there was a lot of inspiration there. A lot of the employees were artists or printmakers. A bunch of those employees eventually started their own greeting card lines or other related businesses …I do carry some cards from those employees a favorite design, LaFamilia Green.
CF:Â What are some of the brands Wildcard carries?Â
RM: I carry cards from Hello Lucky, Egg Press, Rifle Paper. I have prints from Brainstorm, Black Apple Print Shop, Laura Berger. Local favorites include Sapling Press, strawberry luna, Garbella, Alternate Histories, Stak Ceramics and Hey Beast.
