Ann Arbor may not be known for it’s fashion scene, but this Fashionisto is determined to uncover the hidden gems littered throughout this college town. He and his blog co-founder seek to showcase the local boutiques and runway shows that Ann Arbor has through street style magazines and mini documentaries. On top of working on his blog, he also studies Nursing at the University of Michigan.
Name: Zalo Gonzales
Role: Fashion Blogger, here & there
CollegeFashionista: How did your blog, here & there, originate?
Zalo Gonzales: Initially, my blog partner and I had another blog, but we went through a name change as our interests grew and changed. We, and our blog, “grew up” I would say. Now, we are trying to push for more projects like mini publications and street style magazines.
CF: What is your style advice for college-aged men?
ZG: Talking with a lot of guys, I see that they are intimidated by the supposed amount of effort staying stylish takes. I think that some good staples are all you need. A solid pair of oxfords, boots and nice jeans are a few must-have items for guys.
CF: You mentioned you like to focus on local fashion. What are some of your favorite stores around Ann Arbor?
ZG: I think Today Clothing for contemporary menswear is the top of the line. However, it’s pretty expensive, so you have to really save up for that one special piece. I’m also really into The Getup on State Street for those cool, rare vintage pieces. The local Salvation Army is also a really great place to find interesting or vintage clothes that you can’t really find anywhere else. We really want to push that thrifting is perfect for getting a cool look without breaking the bank.
