The ’90s are such an iconic decade in my opinion, however sadly I wasn’t able to witness it in all its glory (I was born in 1995). It’s the era that grunge emerged onto the fashion and music scene. We’re talking the ripped, high-waisted denim with holes for days, the iconic lip liner with dark hued lipstick and, of course, we can’t forget the amazing music that comes along with it! Grunge music inspired a lot of the fashion trends during this decade. The most iconic grunge band is of course, Nirvana. Front man Kurt Cobain was known for wearing whatever he wanted and he didn’t care who approved of his fashion choices! His main focus was on the music but people did in fact take notes when it came to his wardrobe. If grunge music isn’t your cup of tea but you still want to rock the look, don’t worry; I’ve got your back!
This lovely Fashionista takes on a subtle grunge look, perfect for those who don’t want to go all out but still want to venture away from their day-to-day style. Her maroon button-up skirt compliments her lip shade perfectly, while her eyes definitely tell a story with a dark- grey smoky eye. She keeps her accessories simple with a chunky stone bracelet that ties together both the outfit and makeup without distracting one another.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To achieve this grunge makeup look, you can either focus mainly on the lips or the eyes; maybe even go crazy and do both—it’s all up to you! Let’s start with the eyes. My favorite eye shadow palette is Naked2 Basics by Urban Decay. You’ll want to apply the shade Skimp to the inner corner of your eyes and lids. Then, apply the shade Undone to the outer corners. Follow by blending the shade Primal into your creases. If you want to take it up a notch, you could apply a glittery black shade onto the outer corners as well. Next up, just add your favorite eyeliner and mascara or if you want more of a dramatic look, add some false lashes. For lips, go for a dark brown hue with red undertones. I hope you have fun experimenting with this look because fashion and makeup should be about expressing yourself, so don’t be afraid to try new things!
