BEAUTY BAR: A Mani Masterpiece

Nothing says put together like a well manicured Fashionista. As much as we all love getting the royal princess treatment at the spa for a perfected manicure, you can achieve it right in your own bathroom. And yes, I am going to tell you how. I normally go for a more neutral color for my nails, but if you want to switch it up and create a piece of art on your fingertips, keep reading.

Shark week might be over, but take a bite out of this Fashionista’s amazing shark themed nails. And get this, she did them herself! Talk about talent, I can barley paint one hand without getting it all over my fingers. *Sigh.* What’s her secret, you ask? Toothpicks! First, find a design that fits the occasion. (I would suggest something easy for the first time, like a heart or a star). Apply your first coat, the color you want the background or base of the nail to be. After that dries, paint out your desired design on top using the toothpicks and fill them in accordingly with the colors of your choosing. It may take a while to master the toothpick technique, but as the saying goes, practice makes perfect! After you have outlined and filled your pattern, let it sit for a few minutes and then add a clear coat on top to help prevent chipping.

And just how do you pair your new hand-painted nails? Neon is always an option, especially for the summer months. Now, many people are hesitant when wearing neon thinking its a hue that is reserved for clubs and music festivals. Let’s just erase that myth from our minds because neon is a hue that is welcome in any wardrobe and can be worn to pretty much any event. As this bright skirted and bangle adorned Fashionista demonstrates, neon is a wearable option for the summer, especially for the beach, that looks great with an awesome manicure!

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To achieve these shark themed nails, you’re going to need light blue, silver sparkle, red, white and black nail polishes, about six toothpicks (one for each color and an extra), nail polish remover and a few Q-tips. If you make a mistake and get nail polish on your finger, dip the Q-tip in the nail polish remover to erase the error. Make sure you moisturize afterwards to hydrate your hands, and don’t forget to use that chip-resistant top coat!
