J. R. R. Tolkien wrote a poem for Lord of the Rings that says, “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.” Not to stir the pot too much, but I’m going to have to disagree with Tolkien on the first part of the poem. When it comes to eyeshadow and highlighting, gold definitely glitters.
People wear gold eyeshadow all the time, so what makes this Fashionista any different from the masses? She highlights with gold.
I’ve personally never thought to highlight with gold. I have a light complexion, so I figure my highlighter should be bright. My personal makeup routine includes “eye bright” highlighter from Benefit Cosmetics, which is a pretty standard highlighting color. Besides the pink hue I use, I often see people use white or silver. Very rarely have I seen gold used to highlight the inside corners of the eye, but it looks amazing.
I’m a scrutinizer, so I see all the details in people’s appearance. I notice zippers on interesting parts of clothing, subtle jewelry and textures of shirts. The gold highlight was a gorgeous, but subtle, touch for this Fashionista’s look. It perfectly complements her complexion and adds contrast against her dark eyes. It’s a really small thing, but it catches attention.
This Fashionista used a shimmery gold eyeshadow as a base color and as a highlighter. She paired it with a dark cinnamon brown to create a smokin’ hot contrast.
What’s more is that this Fashionista knows gold and blue create a visually-appealing, poppin’ look. With her bright blue top, that gold makes her eyes shine even brighter.
