Because of the New York City heat and humidity, I’ve found it increasingly difficult to maintain my typical hairstyle. My long, flowing curls or pin straight locks become a sweaty, frizzy mess by the end of my morning commute. Therefore, I’ve been embracing other hairstyles that keep my hair contained and away from my face. Topknots and curly ponytails that make me look a tad bit like Glee’s Quinn Fabray from her Cherrio days have become my go-to hairstyles. This Fashionista caught my eye because of her stylish and sophisticated braid and bun combination, a look that’s perfect for anyone’s summer hair sorrows.
While the braid trend is not new, it’s definitely having it’s moment once again. Braids were an extremely common hairstyle in the spring 2015 runway shows, making them an on-trend look this summer. Models at the Donna Karan show sported long braids down their backs while those at Armani wore intricate, twisted hairdos. Small, almost hidden braids appeared at the Vera Wang show and more sexy, messy side braids were the norm at Marissa Webb. Whether you want a polished braid for a day on the job or a beachy version to mimic mermaids for an afternoon lounging in the sand, a braid is the perfect option to complete your summer look.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To achieve this Fashionista’s hairstyle, simply begin by braiding one side of your hair. I like that this Fashionista opted for a deep side part before beginning her braid; I think it added to the sophistication of her hairstyle. After your braid is complete, you’ll want to use a hair tie to gather your thick locks together. Next, using a variety of hair pins that match your hair color, you’ll want to twist your hair into a low bun. To eliminate frizz and flyaways, you may want to use your go-to hairspray. For an added bit of luster, feel free to add a spritz of your favorite shine spray! For a classy touch, add a pair of pearl earrings just like this Fashionista.
