BEAUTY BAR: Dark Lips

Fall is in full swing; trends are slowly transitioning from summery, bright-colored pieces to darker and earthier tones. In other words, it’s now socially acceptable to wear black everything without getting the occasional eye roll that really means “you’re against summer and basically, anything fun I see.” This lovely Fashionista is wearing a rather simple outfit. Her color scheme doesn’t stretch beyond dark blues, grays and black. It works well because she’s playing with many different textures; they keep her form drowning in a sea of darkness. Her Club Monaco jacket already has two different distinct textures: leather and a thicker outerwear fabric. She then breaks up her Urban Outfitters flannel by layering a dark blue cropped cable knit sweater from Brandy Melville.

What this article is mostly about, however, is that lip color! It’s between a dark reddish/brown and the Fashionista’s own natural color. Instead of using a thick lipstick, she mixes a colored chapstick with some eye shadow (sounds weird, but works!) to get the specific color. She uses natural hues to keep her eye makeup quite simple, and as a result, her lips are really brought out. Since the outfit is mostly black, the color really creates a statement. An individual even walked by during the photo shoot and complimented her lip color!

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: There are a few different products that are perfect for recreating this Fashionista’s look. L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24HR Lacquer Intense Gel Eyeliner stays on all day and is applied with a small brush, which makes it easier to go from those intense cat eyes to just a little eye liner for day time. The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette has a great variety of colors to create that natural eye look. If you’re going for the strong lip, some subdued eye shadow will make that lip color really stand out. For lips, there are lip colors out there that resemble the dark brownish/color the Fashionista is wearing, for example Maybelline’s Color Whisper by Color Sensational in the color “Made it Mauve” (number 80). A bit of color can spice up any look, whether it’s playing around with eye shadows and liner or lipstick. One thing that I’ve learned about makeup is to NOT be cheap when it comes to your skin. You’ll notice a difference right away if you use good natural makeup brands because it will stay on longer, and your skin will love you for taking care of yourself! Keep having a RAD fall and stay tuned for more articles!
