Wigs are often reserved as pieces for special occasions. We break them out every Halloween, for decade themed days at school or work and for Comic Con, but never as an everyday accessory. They’re never thought of as a go-to addition (unless of course, you’re shooting an editorial piece, i.e. the wig used in Sienna Miller’s look for Vogue‘s 2009 September issue). The bottom line is that they’re underrated.
Wigs are a great chance to try out different hair colors and styles without the commitment and the $200 price tag that comes with the salon visit. Want to see if “grandma gray” is right for you? Try a wig. Always wanted Daenerys Targaryen’s blonde strands, but you’re scared of all the bleach that could potentially turn your hair to jelly? Try a wig.
All I’m saying is, don’t knock it until you try it. This Fashionista makes a strong case for the beauty trend, and with festival season upon us, it’s a good time to try out a new look (while saving some cash to spend on overpriced pizza and veggie burgers).
There’s a balance of feminine and edge in her beauty routine that translates well into the rest of her look—the femininity of the braid pairs perfectly with the high-waisted flared shorts and blue heels. The edginess of her nose rings works itself in seamlessly with her metal choker and crop top.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To recreate this Fashionista’s look, start from the top with her white/silver wig. Also, because we’re all about not committing to anything for the sake of this article, try a faux septum ring and bring out your inner FKA twigs. Remember, balance is key to recreating the look.
