The New Year not only calls for a reorganization of life goals and resolutions but also a reorganization of our closets and vanity tables. Makeup trends change with the seasons, but one beauty trend that is always wearable is a bold lip. During the summer, we might reach for an electric coral or bright pink. However, these cold months have got us feeling a little darker. This Fashionista’s weapon of choice: MAC’s matte lipstick in the shade “Diva.” It is a really deep red, almost black, lipstick. She kept the rest of her makeup minimal, with a flawless finish of foundation and a light dust of blush on her cheeks.
Lipstick is one of my favorite types of makeup because it can change the look of any ensemble. This dark lip automatically gives off a grunge vibe, while a nude lip or a pink lip gloss would give the face a softer appearance. On lazy days, I just swipe a couple coats of mascara on and wear a bold lip. I instantly look wide away and put together, but it only took me a couple minutes to get ready. Once you’ve tried a dark lip, you may even feel brave enough to try funkier colors like purple or green. Now that will really draw some attention.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To recreate this look, you need a dark lipstick or lip cream in a matte finish. A lip liner would also be useful to ensure clean lines and prevent lipstick bleeding. Keep the rest of your makeup light and fresh, with minimal eyeshadow or liner.
