From a girl who barely uses makeup, I’m impressed by anyone who has the dedication to apply it in the wee hours of the morning and come to class looking like a supermodel ready to walk the runway. Hello mes amies, and today we’re obsessing over the beauty look you see on the Fashionista in the pictures and her advice for the makeup novice.
As a freelance makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics, this Fashionista knows a thing or two about looking flawless. The Fashionista likes to mix drugstore and high-end makeup for inexpensive, yet beautiful, results. She started with Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation 24 Hour Moisture Hydration, and used Covergirl Cosmetics concealer and Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Blush Palette. She applied Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer in a “3” shape starting from her temple, going to the hollow of her cheek, and ending at her jawline to bring more definition to her face. She applied Jeffree Star Cosmetics highlighter to the high points of her cheeks, temples, bridge of her nose, and cupid’s bow to get that “glow.” For her eyes she used Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, Limited Edition Too Faced Holiday 2015 Palette and Smashbox Full Exposure Palette eyeshadow, and Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Lengthening Mascara. She also applied New York Color eyeliner with a brush tip applicator instead of a felt tip. To draw her perfect cat eye, she worked from the outside in, starting from the point on her eyelid right below the end of her eyebrow, drew a line following the curve of her lid, and filled it in. Her lip color is ColourPop Lumière 2 Ultra Matte Lip collaboration with Kathleen Lights. For her eyebrows she used NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil and Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel. Finally, to set her face she used MAC Fix Plus Setting Spray and Coty Airspun Face Powder.
If you were completely overwhelmed by what it takes to look as gorgeous as the Fashionista, fear not! Tips she provides for all those who want to get in to makeup but are too lazy to start (me) include practicing before going out, getting inexpensive makeup and brushes at the drugstore (don’t splurge!), and blending, which is the golden rule of makeup. Practice beforehand because it’s too much pressure to do makeup right before going out, and if you mess up it will take a while to redo. The Fashionista recommends the drugstore products Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation 24 Hour Moisture Hydration and Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. Finally, blending completely is a must to get an airbrushed look so your makeup won’t look streaky (the Fashionista blends using Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge instead of a Beautyblender to achieve this look).
I hope this helps all you aspiring makeup artists and those who appreciate expert makeup application skills. As always, I’ll leave you with style advice to take away from this article:
Drugstore makeup can be just as good as high-end makeup. Don’t forget to blend!
