BEAUTY BAR: Grease Is The Word

Humidity is coming! But before you go all Britney circa 2007, hang on to your razor because I’ve got the bad hair day cure for you. Braids are popping up everywhere and will be your escape from bad hair hell.

Hair is often the most neglected part of an outfit, especially on those days when you just aren’t in the mood to tame the beast. For those of us who are not fortunate enough to be blessed with Blake Lively hair, we have to try a little harder to “make it work,” as Tim Gunn would put it. I have finally realized the magic to always having great hair without the fuss, and that is braids. I am far from being a hair stylist, but with braid tutorials I definitely feel like one. Learning the art of the braid has seriously changed my life (not being dramatic at all). I can now have a different hairstyle every single day and laugh in the face of humidity. Let’s be real, we don’t all wash our hair every day, which makes these braids even more useful. On those days, instead of throwing on a baseball cap, braids are a chic way to cover up the grease.

Before I learned the magic of the French braid, my go to bad hair day fix was a simple ponytail, but then I realized that you don’t have to be a Kardashian to rock a killer boxer braid. There are so many more possibilities than your average pony and braids are the true key to success when you are just not feeling your natural ‘do. There are millions of easy to follow tutorials floating around the blogosphere that even the most hair challenged person can follow. Some of my favorite tutorials come from Instibraid who you can find on Instagram as well as on their website. They create easy to follow braid tutorials that will spice up any ensemble. Another fabulous Instagram hair blogger who is a must follow is Kassinka, a Fashionista with a passion for braids who provides simple tutorials for chic and stylish hair. Kassinka tutorials can be found on her Instagram or on her website. So ditch the pony, embrace your grease and go forth and braid!

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To get this look you will need any brand of small hair elastics, anything larger will distract from the look. If your hair is clean you will need a product like setting spray to give the hair a little more grip. This style along with other braids works really well with dirty hair. To complete the look, curl the ends of your hair with a curling iron to add extra pizzazz. Finally, for long lasting results spray with hair spray.
