Note from the author: The following article has so many puns and I’m so sorry.
My fellow Fashionistas, IÂ present to you a new look that absolutely nails it. It digs the grave for any other way to wear your polish and is something that will give you life. It is the coffin nail, and it’s just as cool as it is creepy sounding.
Growing up in a house of four girls, nail polish was/is always within reach. We are all devoted, nearly religiously, to the meticulous practice of painting our nails and are always looking for the latest nail trends. From french tips to stiletto shape to galaxies, my nails thought they’d seen it all, but I now have a new reason to make my nail technician angry.
Celebrities have long been the amplifiers of nail trends (Katy Perry with her nail art, Gaga with her talons) and the popularity of this look is most widely attributed to none other than Miss Kylie Jenner. She’s a trailblazer of the fashion industry and Kardashian fan or not, we still try to keep up, and this Fashionista is maintaining a great pace!
So what is the coffin nail? Get your high school notes out, guys—we’re about to have a lesson in geometry. The coffin nail is very similar to the traditional square-shaped nail, but instead of the tip having perfect 90-degree angles, it is slightly tapered toward the end resulting in, ya know, a shape reminiscent of the traditional 18th century wooden vampire coffin. The title’s a stretch, I know, but I suppose it has a better ring to it than “trapezium nail.”
For most of us, it takes courage to attempt this look. However, if you’re wanting to do it and not look like a creature from the black lagoon, look no further. This Fashionista does it completely right. In order to balance her daring manicure, she keeps the remainder of her look pretty basic. She pairs a simple cream-colored long sleeve tee with black skinny jeans that have button detailing at the ankle. She remains loyal to her edgy style by slipping on an amazing a pair of lace-up heels, which gives this outfit the boost it needs! A sleek structured leather purse and vintage rings complement her modern nails.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To get your nails looking like coffins (that’s a sentence I never thought I’d never write), I suggest going to a nail salon and allowing a professional to help you out. You’re more likely than not going to need to get acrylics, unless you have been blessed with naturally long and strong nails. The rest of us will just cry while eating our biotin vitamins. But I digress. Bring in a picture to show your manicurist exactly what you want and let them file away! Pick a neutral color so the look isn’t too overwhelming. So put your old nails to rest, liven them up with this trend and consider yourself R.I.P. (Resurrected In Polish).
