I love my natural hair; from the spirals to the life-giving volume, I enjoy the versatility that comes with having naturally curly hair. I can create just about any type of curl I desire without heat, using rollers, twists or braids. I can also let my natural curls fly free. A few days with straightened hair makes me anxious to get my curls back. Not only am I obsessed with my own curls, but I have developed the habit of gushing over other fabulous, curly afros on campus.
I can’t talk about natural curls without mentioning the practicality of having a weather-proof hairstyle. With straightened hair, there is always the possibility of humidity frizzing up your hairstyle on a rainy day. Curly-haired girls don’t have this problem because more frizz just means more volume: the bigger the hair, the better! So, when I ran into this natural Fashionista on a dreary day, rocking the cutest space buns, I just had to take notice. Her minimally styled, fabulous outfit was just a bonus. When asked about her outfit, she said that she just picked out what was easiest to put on. She styled her natural hair with a trench coat with black piping, skinny jeans and leopard print high-tops.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To complete this look, you’ll need a few bobby pins, hair ties and a great hair moisturizer. Oh, and don’t forget those naturally frizzy curls for volume, of course! This Fashionista has her hair in small twists, but feel free to try this style on hair that has not been twisted.
