When I was a little girl, I always envied women who could pull off bold red lipstick. Something about the color screamed “confidence” and I truly believed women who wore it could do anything they desired. A little over ten years later, I’ve become friends with some of the most outgoing ladies I’ve ever met. What’s their go-to lip color? You got it, a dark red.
Makeup has a way of transforming a look into a feeling or aesthetic. This week’s Fashionista is a makeup guru who can wing eyeliner with the best of them. She also knows exactly how to do her eyeshadow to match with the colors of her outfit, which happens to be a RAD band T-shirt and a classic leather jacket. As a total advocate for fiery daytime looks, she isn’t afraid to bring out her dark-colored lipstick before 7:00 p.m. You shouldn’t be, either.
While I mostly feel comfortable with a light pink or brown shade on my lips during daytime hours, it can be crucial to step out of that comfort zone at times. I’ve found that the more I go for an edgier look, the more confident I feel throughout the day. Winter also calls for a more demanding style and nothing contrasts with snow quite like the color red.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To channel your inner edge, try out a dark, matte NARS lipstick. You’ll look easy on the eyes with a winged liquid eyeliner and a versatile eye shadow palette. Don’t go too overboard on accessories with this look though. A few simple touches will go a long way.
