BEAUTY BAR: Smokey Eye Until I Die

For centuries, the smokey eye has been the go-to makeup look for billions of women across the globe. Cleopatra showed us a dramatic version of it, Brigitte Bardott perfected it, Joan Jett rocked it and Kate Moss modernized it. The classic, sexy look draws attention to the most expressive part of your face. Next to a statement lip, a sexy, smoldering shadow can add an instant edge to an otherwise minimalistic makeup look. The black and white color scheme is not the only way to obtain this look. The effect can be toned down for daytime by substituting in brown and taupe shades.

It was one of the first skills I was anxious to master as a makeup obsessed teenager. Now I have come to realize there is no right or wrong way to achieve it. I have learned that the messier your approach is, the better it will look in the end. This Fashionista has nailed the smokey eye look. She flattered her eye color and shape by using brown, pink and champagne colors on her lid and blending it down to her lower lash line to make it look a bit messy and smudged. To balance that, she decided to go a sleeker route with her hair and outfit. She looks stylish in her black and white romper and minimal accessories. To make this outfit appropriate for a daytime event, she chose to wear a simple black sandal. She could easily change into a pair of heels to wear for a nighttime event.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To get this look you will need at least three eye shadow colors. I really like the new Urban Decay Palette because you have lots of colors to choose from for a no-fail smokey eye. Blend like crazy and then add a mascara to make your lashes pop. Lastly, choose your favorite nude lipstick or gloss to finish off the smokey look.
