Alicia Keys rocked the world when she showed up to the MTV Video Music Awards in August with not an ounce of makeup. She’s the first to tell the world that the natural makeup look is back. Say goodbye to those smoky eyes, cakey foundation, bright red lip, and sharp cat eyes. From a subtle eye look paired with a nude lip for class or wearing little to no makeup at all—natural makeup is all over the place at the moment. It’s all about embracing our natural beauty these days. The makeup trend enables us to achieve a more subtle and natural makeup look rather than creating a dramatic makeup look. The whole point of this trend is to make it seem like you’re not wearing any makeup at all or less than you actually are. The key to the no makeup-makeup look is using skin tone based makeup colors such as pink and brown hues.
The no makeup-makeup trend can be confusing, some may ask why you’re putting on any makeup in the first place when it will look like you’re wearing nothing. This Fashionista caught my eye instantly while walking around the NYU campus. Her no makeup-makeup was perfect and definitely paired well with her ombre hairstyle. This Fashionista effortlessly paired her natural eye with a light contour, filled in brows, and a pink lip. To achieve this look, I highly recommend starting off your look with clear skin. One of my goals this semester is to take better care of my skin. I cannot stress enough how important washing your face is! After washing your face, use a lightweight foundation or BB cream. I’m not a fan of contour myself, but I definitely love putting on a little bit of blush—the key is to have a glowing, fresh face. Next, find an eye makeup palette that suits your skin tone. I tend to gear more towards rose gold colors or light pinks and browns. The Fashionista rocked the light brown and pink eye look herself. You can finish the look with a swipe of mascara and neutral lipstick or for a more prominent look, add a bit of eyeliner. It’s time to embrace your natural beauty, Fashionistas!
