Denim: A '90s Trend That's Always in Style

It’s no secret that the ’90s were the decade for girl bands, Nickelodeon cartoons, and junkie snack foods. However, as those fads died with the decade, a long-standing fashion trend remained timeless—denim jeans.

90s Trend Denim on Denim

How come this trend still thrives in the spotlight years after its birth? It’s versatile. High-waisted jeans, high-waisted jean shorts, jean jackets, jean tops, jean boots, jean overalls, and not to forget the infamous jean dress, are just a few of the ways this magical fabric can be worn. What’s so versatile about denim is that it can be paired with just about anything. Safe to say, though, jeans’ perfect match would be none other than black anything as well.

Whether you’re channeling Courtney Cox’s mom jeans circa 1995 or Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid’s ’90s style this past year, you can see that jean and black is a timeless trend. Stores are also catching on to this never-ending style.

Let me give you a personal example of how relevant this trend is to your average college girl as well.

Last week my friends and I attended Boston Calling Music Festival. Being a typical overcast, 60-degree day in Boston, my friends and I were flustered about what to wear that could be trendy, fit the festival vibe, and keep us warm. To our surprise (or not), we all showed up in very similar outfits, incorporating a ’90s vibe with denim and black. I thought to myself, “Wow, we are so original. Come on guys,” when really I was just a little salty that we were about to roll up to this festival looking like a girl band. Then it dawned on me that we all showed up in similar outfits with the same decade inspiration for a reason: the ’90s denim trend is timelessly trendy.
