Doing what you love will always be a challenge, especially if that’s finding your own voice in a competitive field like the fashion industry. You have to find your own way of growing, but when you believe in consistency and effort, opportunities will come your way.
In one of my many moments of procrastination, I found an Instagram advertisement for CollegeFashionista. The post was about how to be a “Style Guru” and all the amazing perks of the internship.
I’m going to be honest: in spite of the fact that I love fashion, my application was an impulse. I applied without knowing what I was getting into, thinking, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Although many of my decisions are based on that principle, I admit that when I got an acceptance email, documentation to sign, training materials, and due dates, I got a little nervous.
Even though I didn’t think for a second about what a big responsibility being a Style Guru would be, it turns out that my little “accident” was one of the best things that could happen to me as a blogger. I never imagined that in a short amount of time, my ideas would be seen by editors and published on a well-known platform!
The moral of this story is to never let an opportunity pass you by. Great opportunities disguise themselves as small to attract those who are not afraid to try, grow, and work for what they want. Especially in the fashion world, opportunities will build a career and take you where you want to go. At the beginning, you’ll be nervous, but trust me, it’ll be worth it!
