From style icons such as Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham and Kate Middleton, it is no wonder that the British know how to dress. I have been studying in England for over a month now and I have already learned and taken in so many new things. I know you are here to learn about the fashion from abroad, so I will jump right in!
The British take their time each morning to dress for the day ahead of them. They dress smart in a sense that they know the weather is quite cold each day and that means one thing: layers. The weather here can be unpredictable at times, but you can usually bet that the forecast will call for rain at some point in the week, so it is always best to bring an umbrella and dress to stay dry. When it comes to the students at the university you will not find many of them wearing an outfit that makes you think, “Hmm…did they just roll out of bed like that?”
The students typically dress in a presentable manner that shows a level of effort put into their attire for the day. One of my favorite looks that I have seen here in England would have to be the fur coats. Many of the girls in my classes wear fur coats in various colors and animal prints. I believe it gives their outfits such a luxurious feel that anyone who might want to copy the fashion from Scream Queens should try it out. The look is very fun and playful, while keeping you warm and fashionable at the same time. I’ve noticed that people in England tend to dress in a very sporty chic way. You may find women wearing a cute blouse, some cropped pants and a pair of adidas kicks, or an alternative look that might consist of an adidas sports jersey, some black leather leggings and a pair of heels. Either way, the students here on campus are one word: polished. I am definitely taking note of their everyday wear and working on making my own personal style clean and crisp.
I decided to capture my fellow classmate in an outfit that I found to be quite typical of what you would find people in England to be wearing. She is wearing black booties with black tights, a denim skirt, a navy blouse with ballerinas, a gray wool coat, a navy backpack and finishes the look off with a classic watch. My classmate tells me that you could find her wearing this outfit to class, out shopping or as everyday attire. She mentions that she likes to dress smart and likes to look presentable and takes the time to make an effort. Some of her favorite pieces include turtlenecks and ribbed jumpers (the English term for sweaters).
Captured: I found this Fashionista strolling through the city center of Manchester, England after class.
