As busy college students trying to find the best path to success, we often stumble upon roadblocks. Sometimes, it’s easy to get right back up when you trip. Other times, you may need a little extra boost to recover from a fall, but that’s okay. All it takes is an extra dose of inspiration to help redefine your career goals. One of my personal favorite methods is by either reading or listening to someone else’s journey, particularly Sofia Amoruso’s in her novel, #Girlboss.
With a fun and humorous tone, Amoruso’s story is packed with enough inspiration to light new fires. When I started college, I had a general idea of what I wanted to major in and what I wanted to do with my life but no legitimate career goals or plans for my future. After reading #Girlboss, I feel ready to take on the world. Here are a few of the tips that are simple enough to incorporate into daily life yet will help kickstart your own success.
focus on failure
Arguably the most important lesson of them all, I became determined to look at failure as a learning experience. Rather than hone in on why things may have gone wrong, focus on how to make them better next time. If it was a poor exam grade, switch up your study methods. If it was simply a fault in your workout routine, maybe it’s time to switch things up. After all, if we don’t make mistakes, how will we learn to become the best problem solvers and unveil our personalities along the way?
be your best self
In a world riddled with seemingly perfect representations on social media, it’s hard to not compare ourselves to others when the only one you should be compared to is who you were yesterday. It’s important to realize that a “perfect” journey doesn’t exist. Work your way up having confidence in your abilities, and don’t let anyone get in your way of reaching your goals.
everything has a purpose
Put your all into every little thing you do. That intro class that fulfills graduation requirements may be riddled with time-consuming essays and lengthy exams, but the knowledge you absorbed may turn out to be useful down the road. Instead of focusing on knowing the information for the grade, look at each bit as a tool. Those essays are enhancing your vocabulary and working your mind while the exams are testing your self-discipline.
While living in the moment is important, it’s also a good idea to take a step back and think about why you’re taking certain steps. Is it to work towards your self-confidence or your dream job? Either way, #Girlboss will riddle you with enough inspiration to step on up and become an actual girl boss.
