How a Single Pair of Pants Changed This Fashionista's Attitude Towards Fashion.

The other day I had a flashback to 11th grade when I was wearing a pair of baggy brown boyfriend pants with a tucked-in shirt and belt. This girl in my class called out to me across the room and said “Peyton what are those pants?” Sixteen-year-old me was in no way, shape, or form confrontational, so I just replied “Um, my brown pants?” She accepted my answer, but then proceeded to openly talk about how ugly my pants were.

Who was she to judge what I wore? All she ever wore was sweatshirts and leggings. She never tried anything new! I’m still not sure why she felt the need to take me down in front of the entire chemistry class.

That day I learned that I shouldn’t let my fashion ambitions and curiosities be crushed by those who will always be stuck in their ways. Even though it was only a pair of pants over six years ago, I never forgot how I felt that day. I never want to make someone feel like trying something new is weird or wrong. I hope those who feel trapped by the people they’re surrounded by realize it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and wear the clothes that make you feel like you.

Don’t get stuck wearing what everyone else is wearing because you’re afraid to do things for you. Take the time to evaluate what it is that you love to put on, and don’t let anyone discourage you.

I’m going to continue to take risks with new pieces to see what I really like and what looks good on me. I won’t let anyone dictate what I wear and what makes me happy. I’m sharing a couple of new ideas with you so you can join in with me or find some new ideas of your own!
