As millennials, we want it all. For me, that means sleeping until precisely 18 minutes before class starts and showing up to lecture with the most enviable hair with little to no (emphasis on the “no”) effort. Is that so much to ask? That’s what all the beach wave hacks are so appealing to me. Is it possible to live the Beyoncé dream of actually waking up like this? I was dead set on figuring out.
After trying and testing several methods, I have figured out which work and those that literally fall flat.
Be sure to check out these tried and true hacks that will have you looking like you just walked out of the ocean and let your hair dry in the warm sun even though you actually snoozed four times.
The Rope Braid
This is a great technique because it requires no heat and is very simple. Just twist your hair into as many rope braids as you would like before you go bed. If you want your waves to be smaller, like mine, then try three or four tight braids. If you’re looking for a fuller wave, then let keep your hair in larger chunks and make the braids loose.

The Curling Iron
Personally, this is my favorite way to make beach waves; I have long heavy hair so sometimes hot tools allow the curls to hold longer. If you’re worried about the end result looking too “done” then try this simple trick: the pony tail. Pull your hair back into a high pony and curl large chunks while it’s up. This technique only curls the ends of the hair and only takes a few minutes of time. Say hello to an extra 30 minutes of sleep in the morning!

The Headband Wrap
Finally, the headband wrap technique. This one creates the most subtle wave, but it is still effective. I find it best to use a headband that is softer so it doesn’t create a dint in the hair. The nice part about this trick is how messy is can be; section off your hair, wrap it around the back of the headband, secure it with a bobby pin and you’re done! As mentioned earlier, my hair is very heavy so the results of the headband method could be significantly more dramatic for a different hair type.
