They say that the clothes we wear are the non-spoken language we use to tell the world who we are. I’ve never believed that statement more than when I came to college. Getting to know my university’s campus has shown me the unique sartorial diversity among students of different majors. College is one of those rare places that bring together people of all walks of life, and personal style is certainly no exception.
What you choose to study for these four years of your life becomes entrenched, one way or another, in who you are as a person. Which is then expressed outwardly via your sense of style. It’s kind of like when you went to your first concert in middle school and wore the band tee as often as you could just to let the world know about your amazing taste in music. From fine arts students to business and communications, every major has their unofficial style tribe. So, which one do you identify with?
Fine Arts – Your wildly creative right brain takes over while getting dressed in the morning (and for the rest of the day in the studio). Bold colors and eccentric patterns tend to inspire your wardrobe and you’re never afraid to mix and match your more unique pieces. (Photo via @layne_miller).
Business – From class to your internship to club meetings, you’re always on the go. Your style is defined by sleek and professional staples like loafers and a structured handbag. (Photo via @born_intheknow).
Dance – Your version of “class” is a three-hour studio spent perfecting that new routine rather than sitting in a lecture hall taking notes. Which means that you’ve taken the athleisure game to new heights with sportswear that’s both comfy and chic. (Photo via @amandaasette).
Communications – Future public relations agents and marketing masters here! Since you’re always in on what everyone’s buzzing about at the moment, your clothes reflect how on-trend you always are. (Photo via @jaidabrinkley_).
Fashion Design – You spend hours meticulously stitching a garment by hand and pay really close attention to detail. So when it comes to dressing yourself, you won’t settle for anything less than the best—your own pieces, obviously! (Photo via @sierracortner).
French – You’ve devoted your academic studies to one country’s language and culture, so at this point you’re wondering why the French consulate hasn’t just sent you a passport already. You love everything French and simply dress yourself everyday in preparation for when you’ll be sipping espresso’s along the Champs Elysée. One day, mes cheries. (Photo via @stylebymar_).
