Fall is by far my favorite season to experiment with layering. Sure, it’s a trend that has functionality, but it’s also the perfect way to show off your style and mood on a given day. The weather is (hopefully) not too hot and not too cold for most campuses in the U.S., so wearing different articles of clothing with all sorts of textures can create a magical medley of looks.
There’s really no wrong way to layer. It’s all about testing the waters and making sure that what you put on is what you genuinely love. But for those who are still new to the wonderful world of layering, here are a few tips you can keep in mind the next time you explore your closet!
The Weather’s Still Too Warm: Layering in the heat can often be a hassle but it’s most certainly not impossible. Take inspiration from this Fashionista and layer a lightweight and simple white T-shirt under a cute pastel colored tank for the perfect look! (Photo via @sarahdewald)
Mixing Textures: The beauty of layering lies in the fact that you can pretty much mix any textured fabrics together. Try wearing a tough leather jacket over a more lighter cotton sweater for a balanced outfit. (Photo via @kaycaden)
One Does It All: This layering technique is a tried-and-true method. Anyone of any age, size and style can pair their favorite button-up with a comfy knitted sweater! (Photo via @kirameetsworld)
The Fashionisto Way: These Fashionistos have the layering technique on LOCK! The raw cuts, combination of patterns and deep hues are great details that are worth duplicating. (Photo via @collegefashionista)
Keep it Neutral: If you’re going for a more subtle look, try pairing a cropped top with an extra long cardigan. This style is both elegant and easy to put together. (Photo by @elizagracehuber)
Missin’ Summer: If you’re like me and you can’t let go of summer just yet, take out that cute off-the-shoulder top and wear it under a pair of overalls. This look can be layered even more by adding a denim jacket or knitted cardigan if you live in a more cooler area. (Photo via @_kyliestetler)
