See How CollegeFashionista Brought Together These Mentors-Mentees

As our fall mentorship program begins to draw to a close, we’re celebrating the amazing connections that were made this semester. Turns out, pairing rockstar Style Gurus with incredible alumni results in some true dream teams.

The best part about this program is that it is a mutually-beneficial learning experience. Our mentors and mentees were gracious enough to share their learnings, so that we can all walk away feeling more knowledgeable and empowered. True #GuruGang goals.

Kelsey Cadenas, SCAD

mentorship-1

CollegeFashionista: What’s your favorite part about being a mentee?

Kelsey Cadenas: My favorite part about being a mentee is that personalized attention you get from someone who has been in your shoes in the past, and is now very successful in the field you want to go into.

CF: What’s one thing you learned from your mentor?

KC: I’ve learned that it’s ok to start small and to ALWAYS do your research before and interview and during your application process for internships and jobs. Every company is different so you always have to tailor your resumes and cover letters to fit the company you are applying to.

CF: Describe your mentor in three words.

KC: Honest, energetic and motivated.

Erin Fahan, Account Manager at ClassPass

CollegeFashionista: What’s your favorite part about being a mentor?

Erin Fahan: I love getting the chance to help someone discover their next steps and feel confident in making them. For me it was so hard to determine what I wanted to do with my career and it would have helped so much to have someone who’s been there before to help guide me.

CF: What’s one thing you learned from your mentee?

EF: Kelsey has taught me that really anything is possible. She started out as a biomedical major and is now pursuing fashion marketing and management at SCAD. Now, I’m trying to apply to my own life and feel confident in making huge career shifts. She’s all around awesome!

CF: Describe your mentee in three words.

EF: Creative, dedicated, passionate.

Elizabeth Morales, DePauw University

CollegeFashionista: What’s your favorite part about being a mentee?

Elizabeth Morales: I love being a mentee because it helps give me an insider’s perspective into the industry that I hope to work in after I graduate this spring.

CF: What’s one thing you learned from your mentor?

EM: I learned that through hard work you can accomplish great things.

CF: Describe your mentor in three words.

EM: Dedicated, determined, inspiring.

Melissa Levin, Editorial Director at CollegeFashionista

mentorship-4

CollegeFashionista: What’s your favorite part about being a mentor?

Melissa LevinI love being able to act as a sounding board and dispense advice. Senior year is a terrifying and exciting time for everyone. I hope through my mentorship, the thrill now overshadows the anxiety of the unknown.

CF: What’s one thing you learned from your mentee?

ML: Elizabeth seriously does it all. From cheerleading to writing and editing for CF to other on-campus involvement (oh, and being a student), she’s a lady of many talents. She taught me that no matter how young or old you are, it’s important to take every opportunity and explore all your interests.

CF: Describe your mentee in three words.

ML: Smart, passionate, hardworking.
