College Students Share The Surprising Role This One Thing Has On Their Fashion Choices

Because of the pressure put on women in our society, I think a lot about how Iโ€™m going to be perceived when putting an outfit together. Itโ€™s hard to strike the right balance between being sexy and cute and all the things girls are supposed to perfectly while still ultimately want to dress however I want to. Relationshipsโ€”romantic, friendship, and even those with strangersโ€”all are factors in what we ultimately decide to wear on a given day.

I know I am not the only one who struggles with this notion. So I asked some other college students about how their relationships affect how they dress and got some interesting responses!

โ€œIโ€™ve noticed the more confident I am with myself, the more experimental I am with my clothing choices. In big city environments I feel free to express my style. When Iโ€™m in a small town setting where everyone almost dresses the same I feel like an oddball and kind of tame myself.โ€โ€”@anagabrielateran

โ€œWhen youโ€™re with your significant other you tend to dress up, I think! Youโ€™re more willing to spend time  on yourself and your appearance because you want to complement the other person.โ€โ€”@tabihoshmand

โ€œI look at my friends all the time for inspiration and on occasion may end up dressing similarly to them!โ€โ€”@ctrinkino

โ€œI definitely think our relationships inspire our style, whether youโ€™re borrowing from your significant otherโ€™s closet or your older sisterโ€™s closet.โ€โ€”@amberiman

โ€œIf I know people arenโ€™t going to be really dressy, I opt for a casual/less trendy outfit. If I know I will be around people who will appreciate certain fashion details, Iโ€™ll go full out. I never feel like I canโ€™t dress the way I want in front of my boyfriend or family which I think is really special.โ€โ€”@shelbyshowell
