How I Stay Stress-Free for Summer

If you’re like me, you know that summer doesn’t always mean being stress-free. Between work, taking a few summer classes, and managing to still have a social life, things can get a bit overwhelming. Finding ways to minimize stress can be key to enjoying the warm weather and gain some much-needed rest and relaxation. Below are five of my favorite ways to stay stress-free and enjoy the summer!

1—Breakfast. Everyone says breakfast is the most important meal, and it’s true! I love starting my day off with a good yogurt bowl. My favorite combination is this one:

1cup of plain Greek yogurt (the plain, unflavored variety has less sugar and helps you avoid the mid-morning crash)

1 tablespoon of honey

1/4 cup of granola

1/2 cup of fruit of choice (strawberries are my usual go-to!)

Additional toppings you can add are chia seeds which are good for digestion, nuts for protein, shredded coconut as a substitute sweetener, or any of your other favorite toppings!

2—Get a planner. I live and die by my planner. Knowing what’s in store for your week can help you stay on top of tasks and stay stress-free when trying to make plans. A helpful trick I utilize is keeping colored pens and highlighters on hand to make my organizing even easier!

3—Yoga. Yoga is a great way to break up a busy schedule. It calms and re-centers both your mind and body and can be a relaxing way to spend your lunch break or afternoon free time. Even in the morning, it can be a good way to start your day off balanced. There are so many different types of yoga but my favorite is restorative yoga. It’s great for both beginners and those who have done yoga before and it focuses on deep relaxation.

4—Hydrate. Staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to lower your stress. Water energizes, refreshes, and keeps you alert and feeling great all day. Adding a few slices of lemon, lime, or orange in your water bottle also make for a yummy infused flavor. Infused water has so many health benefits, too! For example, lemon water helps with bloating and digestion and gives you a boost of potassium. This ultimately helps your muscle and nerve systems function more efficiently.

5—If all else fails, have a staycation!  Most of all, it’s important to take some time and treat yourself once in a while. You can do this without spending a lot by having a vacation right at home! Grab a face mask, some nail polish, a good summer read, and jump in a nice bubble bath or lay out in the sun. Give your body and mind time to unwind—you deserve it!
