Plaid in its most simple form is vertical and horizontal bands being crossed together in two or more colors. The plaid pattern has been around for many years. One common thing we think of when we think of plaid is the Irish Kilt or lumberjack shirts. Having been worn by both mainstream culture, such as in the 1995 movie Clueless and in the counterculture and grunge era, plaid is quite versatile for many different styles and occasions.
What is one way to pull off the plaid pattern look? Check out our Fashionista for this week, who pulls off the this pattern in a stylish way. Wearing the plaid shirt over a printed top, the plaid pattern remains as the main element for the outfit. We can see that the plaid pattern consists of red, black, gray and yellow. This color palette is quite interesting because it’s doesn’t have any bright colors popping out, giving her a grunge look. In addition, not buttoning the plaid shirt all the way, allows the pattern of the printed top to contrast nicely and add a little personality to the outfit.
Pairing the plaid shirt with blue denim is most similar to the style of lumberjacks and farmers, creating a great outfit to wear outdoors. However, while it does have an outdoorsy look, her outfit and the way she styled it is very fashionable and can be worn on many occasions. Completing this grunge and outdoor look, this Fashionista wore black boots, which are simple and stylish at the same time.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You should wear different colors of plaid to create different looks. Have fun and play around with your outfits.”
