STLYE GURU STYLE: Feeling Bold in Black

There’s nothing I love more than wearing black. It could be because of its ability to make me feel slimmer (even after that Easy Mac and soda binge during a stressful hell week) or because it can make me feel so much more confident than any other color. Wearing black can make any bad day—well, most bad days—better. Failed an exam that you stayed up all night studying for? Saw your crush flirting with someone who isn’t you? Replace your outfit with something black and although it can’t change what happened, trust me, you will feel so much better and more beautiful as you strut around campus in your new black and bold look.

My black and bold look was inspired by the spring 2016 menswear collection of Philipp Plein. This collection was anything but delicate as mohawked motorcyclists and a police car chase opened the runway show. Models walked the runway in studded blazers, distressed denim and countless leather pieces. This collection was mainly black and white with bold colors like red used as accent colors. This hyper stylized rocker meets chic collection screamed badass as models looked like they came straight out of a glamorous, trendy biker bar (if those even exist).

My look, specifically, was based on a look that consisted of a fitted black blazer, a black scoop neck T-shirt, distressed light wash jeans and studded black sneaker, boot hybrid shoes adorned with silver eagles. I, of course, wouldn’t dare wear a black blazer in this heat, so I traded it in as well as the scoop neck T-shirt for a thin black sweater. Ripped up jeans can be very trendy, but the overly distressed and dramatic pair Phillip Plein created for this look was a bit too edgy for my taste. Instead, I simplified the jeans by wearing a pair of light wash skinny jeans that somewhat resemble acid-washed jeans. Then, to add something new to my look, I threw on a pair of white sneakers instead of a black pair. This simple yet bold look can bring anyone’s badass side out.

Get My Look: 1. Fitted black sweater. 2. Light wash denim. 3. White sneakers.
