STYLE ADVICE: '70s Flare

Are pigs flying? Something I never thought would happen has actually happened—flared jeans are back! Skinny jeans were the primary choice of denim among all Fashionistas/os ever since Kate Moss and those alike were seen sporting them in the nineties. However, times are changing and various types of denim are now making more frequent appearances. In recent years, I’ve seen ripped, cropped, and boyfriend jeans all join the crowd. And in recent months, flared jeans have been attracting a lot of attention. When I think of flared jeans I think of one thing: the 1970s. This makes sense because we all know that fashion constantly recycles itself.

Taking inspiration from a different decade can make for a fun and unique outfit. This stylish Fashionista demonstrated this potential perfectly. She wore a simple pair of flared denim jeans that also had some small distressed detailing. In order to style this type of denim to the best of its ability, she added purple booties. Boots are the best accessory to go alongside flared jeans, as the added elevation keeps the excess fabric from dragging on the ground. To further enhance this ’70s vibe, she added a cropped floral blouse with flared sleeves, and colors that flawlessly matched her boots.

You, too, can easily add a flare to an outfit—figuratively and literally. I know it can be a little intimidating to style a look that looks like it’s straight out of an episode of That ’70s Show, but being adventurous is one of the best things about fashion. You can play around with a look until it works perfectly for you. So go for it—try flared jeans with your favorite pair of boots, that way you have a sense of comfort while trying something new. Add an off the shoulder top or a cropped vintage tee and you’re all set. Lastly, don’t be nervous to channel your inner Jackie Burkhart.
