STYLE ADVICE: A Floridian Winter

When you live in Florida, seasons don’t really exist. Instead, we Floridians spend all year in a haze of 80 degrees or above. On the rare day that it does hit 60 degrees or below, you will see every Florida native whip out their biggest winter coat and brave the “cold” weather. Each year, all the Floridian Fashionistas/os get only a select number of days to experiment with all of the layered looks and chunky sweaters without sweating all over their bodies. Being a lover of winter fashion, this is really disappointing because I don’t get much time to explore warmer looks. Most days during the winter season, we have to find ways to stay cool in the warm weather without looking like we are in the middle of summer. I saw this outfit on this Fashionista on a particularly hot day of the winter season and thought she nailed this concept.

For this outfit, this Fashionista paired some high-waisted black jeans, a winter classic, with a black bralette layered underneath a long sleeve fishnet shirt. To finish off the look, she wore black suede booties with a metallic gold heel and some cat eye sunglasses.

The all black color pallet used in this outfit, along with the suede booties and jeans, helps to give a more wintery feel. However, my favorite element of this outfit, the fishnet shirt, is the perfect Floridian winter staple. The black color and long sleeves make this shirt a winter piece; however, the fishnet material allows the shirt to be breathable, making the hot weather much more bearable. Of course, if you are in a colder climate, this outfit might not be the most ideal, but for those of us in warmer climates, this outfit is the perfect solution for our winter.

Staying with the winter trends in a state or city that rarely goes below 60 degrees can be quite a struggle, but this fashionista nails it! Breathable materials and a dark color pallet can be the key to a stylish winter outfit when it’s 80 degrees outside.
