STYLE ADVICE: A SoCal Winter Wardrobe

For all of those living in SoCal, you know the struggle of not having a proper winter. Winter consists of sunny days with the occasional downpour and a gloomy day here and there. Now I’m not complaining but when the colder days are few and far between you’re left with a confused and unprepared wardrobe. No one is a fan of a sad wardrobe. Luckily, there is no reason to fear because your guide to being prepared for a San Diego winter is here.

The best way to keep your wardrobe updated with today’s latest fashion while also being weather conscious, is by finding main pieces that can match different temperatures based on how you complement them. My go-tos when shopping for “winter” are always sweaters and ankle boots. A sweater can be cozied up with a pair of jeans and even accessorized with a scarf for those chilly days. However, you can replace those jeans with shorts and that scarf with a necklace and have an outfit perfect for a day of fun in the SoCal winter sun. Ankle boots always add a touch of glam to any outfit no matter how much you dress it up or down. Let’s be honest people, you can never have too many stylin’ ankle boots. Personally, I hope that the ankle boot fad never goes out of style.

Now, there are key components to making this ‘sweater style’ work. You do this by finding statement sweaters that can be worn again and have the same effect each time you wear it but with different accessories, bottoms, and shoes. My advice is to look for those sweaters that have a wow factor but aren’t too overwhelming and hard to accessorize. I always love the ones that are a different color than your normal gray, black, and white. I focus on sweaters that are a color that is out of the ordinary but also very subtle such as a dusty rose, a burnt orange, or even an emerald green. These are quick to make a statement each time you wear them but will also give you no trouble when it comes to accessorizing.

Off-the-shoulder sweaters are my personal favorite because they add extra glam and make an outfit super spunky. They are complemented perfectly by scarves, necklaces, and oversized jackets while still being just as fabulous when worn without accessories.

I look to inspiration from this Fashionista. She lives in Colorado and her style is a perfect success story of how this can be worn in the frigid Denver air but also suitable for sunny San Diego. I love her choice of velvet choker with an off-the-shoulder sweater because it keeps her outfit chic and cozy but also perfect for the San Diego vibe.

All in all, no matter how funky SoCal winters are, us Fashionistas are always ready for new challenges and ways to make an outfit despite wacky weather conditions.
