College is full of running around all day, between going from class, to work, to grabbing a quick bite to eat. Many people find it easiest to go with comfort when it comes to the school environment. I see the running shorts and T-shirt look dominate my college campus, and I am guilty of doing this every once in a while as well. With most people sticking to the same formula for their everyday look, it might be discouraging to dress up for class.
When I ran into this Fashionista, she expressed how she feared wearing skirts to class and putting effort into her daily style choices. I completely understood where she was coming from. My entire freshmen year, I was afraid myself to express my individuality through one of my favorite outlets: fashion. I had worn a uniform for about 13 years of my education, and I guess I fell into that habit of a different kind of uniform once I got to college. This year, I have changed my viewpoint, and now I confidently wear what makes me feel most me.
I reassured her that she should wear what makes her feel confident, and if that was this adorable true-to-Florida, palm tree printed wrap skirt, an off-the-shoulder top, and booties, then that’s exactly what she should wear!
College is the time to learn more and more about yourself everyday and discover new parts of yourself that you never knew existed. With finding who you are, it is only fitting that you also wear something that reflects who you are. Whether you wear running shoes and a T-shirt or booties and a skirt, you should wear what makes you feel confident and not hold yourself back in fear of standing out. So for all of those Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there scared to go against the grain, I am here to tell you from experience that you will feel much better if you just let yourself be you, whoever that may be, and let your freak fly through your style (and in general).
