STYLE ADVICE: Ditch the Pantsuit

When in a work environment, the pantsuit truly is a powerful image. Look at Hilary Clinton, for example. She puts the pantsuit to work! Though this outfit is befitting to her and her position, not many of us will end up running for president elect. Most of us will find ourselves working for a company or maybe even independently. Many companies now have more of a casual dress code. With that being said, how do we dress powerfully yet casually? I can tell you now that it does not involve a pantsuit (keep rocking them, Mrs. Clinton).

This Fashionista perfectly showcases the business casual look. Let’s start from the top down. She is dressed in a casual blazer, the key to the business element of the outfit. The blazer is so important—just throw out those bulky shoulder pads to give it a professional yet relaxed look. She is also sporting a colorful romper, which gives the outfit a fun twist! Don’t be afraid to brighten up the office. On top of the blazer is a layered gold and black, stone necklace. This adds some more formality and jazz to the overall look. On her feet, this Fashionista is rocking an amazing pair of Mossimo lace-up heels. These shoes are perfect for the office—they are trendy, comfortable, and the heel would boost anyone’s confidence. Finally, the Fashionista is carrying a structured Oscar de la Renta bag. This bag completes the look because it is so beautiful yet so professionally understated. Plus, it’s big enough to store that blazer in once the workday is over and she heads to cocktails with her work friends.

So ladies, let’s keep the pantsuit saved for very important occasions and use our creativity to create beautiful workplace outfits. Your clothing choice, believe it or not, can make or break you in the business environment. Get out there and show the world who’s boss.
