When we dress, there seem to be so many “rules” we subconsciously follow when picking out an outfit. Personally, I think none of them should be followed. Everyone is unique and has their own personal style. That is one of the reasons I pursued a career in the fashion industry! The ability to give off your personality without speaking a word is something so powerful. Millennials especially have begun to break through these social norms and step outside of what is expected of them. Not just in fashion, but in society, their job choices and life ideals. In my opinion, that is why street style trends are so fast-paced and ever-changing. Our generation is heavily influenced by social media and has the ability to share instantly what’s trending, what’s not, and what the next big thing will be.
This outfit caught my eye because I loved the monochromatic gray on gray look. Gray on gray is something that has been historically avoided in fashion, but that has all been changing dramatically in the past couple of years. Monochromatic looks have been styled all over the runways in top notch designer shows. The best example of it would have to be Yeezy Season 4. A lot of the collection’s looks showcase one color used over and over in different shades. This show received a lot of controversy because of the harsh conditions the models faced, but Kanye West’s collaboration with Adidas has been groundbreaking for their company and has sent shockwaves through the ideals of the fashion industry. The Yeezy collection was a major catalyst in the start of this monochromatic trend.
So, my style advice is to go gray on gray! All you need to pull off the monochromatic look is added depth with different shades or textures. This Fashionisto’s look is a perfect example. His gray Adidas Torsions, Tommy Hilfiger puffer jacket, and long line shirt pair together seamlessly. This look is sleek, modern, effortless, and on trend. I think the monochromatic trend is going to be everywhere this year and should be! It makes putting together an outfit easy and looks super rad. So be uniquely you and step outside of your comfortable norms this year.
