STYLE ADVICE: Layering Up for Spring

All the changes in temperature this winter have been extremely difficult on Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike. While we all probably welcome the warmth in February and March, we all feel that little pang of guilt knowing that it’s warm because of global warming. But whatever the reason for this crazy season, it can be impossible to dress for.

The academic buildings will either still have the heat on or will have panicked and switched on the AC. If you have an early morning class, it might only be 35 degrees, but you could walk outside at noon and be surprised with 65 degree weather (this has happened to me in the past week). This is where creative layering comes in, and this Fashionisto definitely has the right idea.

He knew that the high that day was supposed to be around 65 degrees, so he threw on a pair of neutral shorts. But, because he had class at 10 a.m., it was only 40 degrees when he was leaving the house. This drastic difference in temperature made him stop and think about whether he should throw on a coat for the long walk from the terribly placed parking lot to class, but instead, he decided to get creative with layers. He put on a light striped button-down that would allow for an extra layer of warmth in the morning but also be a cool option once the sun rose completely. Then, instead of a heavier option for the jacket, he threw on a lighter, zip up cardigan to keep him warm on the walk to class. He finished off the look with boat shoes and his favorite watch.

Don’t let weird weather get you down this (spring? winter?) season! Just keep a few layers with you, and rock whatever will keep you comfortable in the changing temperatures.
